About Me

I'm a chartered professional engineer with an honours degree in Environmental Engineering from the University of Western Australia and a Postgraduate Certificate in Environmental Management from Murdoch University. I have over eighteen years experience.

In my early career, I worked in design and computer modelling within the civil and environmental fields. Some of my colleagues are surprised to hear that I spent a few years as a three-dimensional computer modeller of coastal processes—sounds impressive, they say.

After almost seven years in the technical field, I realised that I loved organising and coordinating. This naturally led me into the disciplines of project management and project controls (planning, scheduling, estimating, cost management). I've been fortunate to have worked on all sizes of projects, small to mega projects (billion-dollar), and I've managed teams of between 1 (that's me alone) up to 65 people.

I've delivered projects using project management frameworks and phase-gate systems, which is typical on many major projects. I've also assisted with establishing the process for delivery of major projects.

The industries I've worked in include mining, infrastructure and hydrocarbon.

About the Blog

My posts are personal views. I loved watching documentaries when I was a kid—Sir David Attenborough’s were some of my favourites. This love of discovery continued into adulthood. I was fortunate to have studied environmental engineering, which gave me exposure to natural science as well as engineering. My hope is that my posts will help young adults develop a love of science and engineering, and perhaps consider a career in it as an option.

Have I got it wrong?

I've attempted to research the subject matter as much as my time permits but new discoveries and literature may overtake the posts. I apologise for this. Please let me know if something has become redundant.

Keep it clean

Please keep comments respectful—no attacks, swearing or ridiculing. Thanks. I will moderate as much as I can. Where I have made a mistake, I will correct the post in due time.
